"capturing the eyes in portraiture is integral to successfully capturing the true essence of a subject"

Amanda is a self-taught artist, working in acrylic, pastel and pencil. Like many artists she has come back to art late in life, but is now able to enjoy the freedom of developing her skills at her own pace, in her own way and experience the consequent highs and lows of success and failure with slightly more equanimity than perhaps she would have had when younger. She has lived and exhibited in Hampshire, but recently achieved her ambition to move westward, and is now settling back into the comfort of her art in the seaside town of Seaton amidst the unique peace and beauty that is Devon.

Amanda has always enjoyed figurative work seeking to capture the nuances to be found in posture and expression, both human and animal, that express the character and mood of a subject. As an animal lover, this has led to her specialising in pet portraits, and animal art. She believes that capturing the eyes in portraiture is integral to successfully capturing the true essence of a subject.

Whilst it is helpful for an artist to have a specialty, Amanda is careful to try and vary her work to keep herself open to new techniques and possibilities and prevent her work from stagnating. Also, as a trained therapist she is aware of the energetic healing power of colour and form. With this in mind she has recently forayed into the world of acrylic pours and abstract art and their accompanying challenges enjoying the infinite possibilities available to explore in colour, brushstroke and application.

This exhibition gives the viewer a taste of all aspects of her work and an insight into the artist herself.

A selection of Amanda's work will be available to view on the first floor of Pavilions Teignmouth from 17th October 2022 until 13th January 2023.

All pieces will be available for sale and entry to view art is, as always, completely free.
