HARD TO RESIST! OIL & ACRYLIC* FIGURES New!

[beginner/improvers. *Oil pastel and water colour can also be used]

Using a minimal amount of paint, we will create glowing passages of colours over a resist base. Resist techniques are great fun as different edges and textures are created automatically and characterfully, adding new dimensions to our work. Using the principle that oil and water don’t mix, we will use resistance to highlight light and shade areas, then glaze them with rich, loose washes. The effect is wonderful and encourages us to be bold and brave with that perennial favourite the figure.

After a discussion about light, painting form, compostion and figure proportions, we’ll have an easy warm up exercise and start some sketching from clothed /nude model photos.  Learning to add the resist areas, then the fun starts as we reveal the light and shadow on figures with bold oil or water colour washes. More can be overlaid as we develop our design.

Moody limited colour pictures [think Picaso’s blue period] can be created or full-on colour as you build the glazes, letting the three dimensions of the figure appear. Magic!

[Bold beginners are welcome, we will be jumping straight into the subject,[ look out for our watercolour/acrylic intros for more on technique etc] you’ll get lots of support along the way.
