Teignmouth Comedy Club - a great night of comedy with 3 comedians and compere.
Self-styled 'housewife comedian' Mary Bourke may look sweet in her flowery tea-dress, but her humour pulls no punches. Mary was born in Dublin during a cross fire hurricane. Before she became a comic She was a burlesque dancer and choreographer in San Francisco. And her comedy is a series of hilarious drive-by assassinations of everyone foolish enough to cross her path – the rich, the complacent, the self-satisfied, the trendy, the right-on… well, pretty much everyone really. But they all had it coming.
‘Bourke’s comedy is savage in intent and surgical in execution…Mary goes in search of the original spirit of stand-up and reclaims it with style’: The Skinny
‘Bourke’s obvious skill is such that the audience are never less than utterly delighted’: Fest
(please note this is a change to the previously-advertised line-up)
Barstool banter is hilarious down the pub but rarely works onstage. Yet every now and then there comes a comedian who can truly take that sense of hanging on your best mate’s every word at a pub table and relate it with the same self-effacing, matey charm to 300 people or more. Devon’s own Luke Honnoraty hilariously navigates issues close to the South-West conscience such as worrying about your social status and avoiding conflict with alpha-males in a beer garden.
‘Luke is guaranteed to be loved by any audience and never disappoints. His infectious persona has audiences laughing at the darkest of subjects before they even realise.’ - Dorset Weekender
Cornwall’s Mark Dennett has a grab bag of amusing tales, including some about his less-than-friendly Cornish neighbours. Mark’s reflections on life contain some deliciously dark thoughts on midlife marriage and cohabitation that younger acts wouldn’t have a clue about, with biting insights into those years when sensuality turns into sufferance and there’s less tickling tonsils than biting lips.
‘Just take him, there's no rush to get him back!’ - Mrs Dennett
Resident MC Tom Glover has hosted Teignmouth Comedy Club since it started and is a favourite with the local crowd. He is best known for the sort of bullet-proof crowd work that makes his audience part of the joke, not the butt of it. Tom is a true locally-sourced comedian: he knows how to pronounce Teignmouth and has more jokes about Trago Mills than travelling on the Tube!
“A firm audience favourite” – Chortle
“Gets the audience onside in seconds; very sharp and engaging” – Ministry of Comedy
