GETTING BACK INTO DRAWING - ‘wire’ and other styles

For Beginners/Improvers.

Economical materials - felt pen and paper

Drawing in some form is the starting point for most paintings as we figure out shapes and compositions. Of course the simplicity of drawings often stand as artwork in their own right, as Durer’s work attests, and today we will explore a simple, charming quirky style that anyone can do. We’ll start with a look at various styles, considering the ‘language’ they use, then try out a couple, perhaps deliberately unlearning precision, and developing a more responsive style to the character of the subject, keeping it very simple and cut back. As Paul Klee said, ‘we’ll take a line for a walk’ with all the glorious ease and freedom that suggests. Being able to draw in a sketchbook can fill many a pleasurable spare moment!
