The Second Line refers to the drum and percussion section of a procession typically following a funeral procession in celebration of a persons life. This tradition was taken to New Orleans during the African Diaspora and as a result has mixed characteristics of a European style march mixed with West African polyrhythms.
These processions are usually made up of a mixture of drums and percussion as part of a brass band. These days, all sorts of rhythms are incorporated whilst still keeping a swinging, funky style.
During this workshop we will utilise a range of instruments including Djembes, Congas, Snare, Bass drums and bells. Expect BIG Beats, BIG Breaks & BIG Smiles!
This workshop is accessible and open to all!
Tickets can be bought individually at £15 per class or at a discounted rate for the two sessions in July, if bought together in one transaction - £25 for the two July classes. The second July class is Conga Comparsa and takes place on Saturday 30th July 11am to 1pm.
Please note there is a 50p booking fee, per transaction in person, or £1 booking fee, per transaction, online or over the telephone.
