SKETCHING TEIGNMOUTH-An outdoor ‘plein air ‘day PART 1

[beginners/improvers. Drawing media, simple colour]

7 AUG 10.30-4.30  £67

It’s become a tradition that we have a ‘plein air’ painting day in the summer; with so many good subjects to draw right on the doorstep of the Pavilions we have a lovely opportunity. Working in front of a subject live, lets us hear, smell, see, feel all the information around us and respond to it. We can select and portray what we are liking rather than including everything as we often do with a photo. This can make our sketches simpler and more powerful, standing alone as a piece of work or as a study for  a painting. Watch out for part 2 when we can turn our sketches into paintings.

Yet outdoor work can feel challenging, exposing and tricky. Meeting first in our studio, we’ll start with a brief discussion about picking good spots, handling interruptions by the public and having the right mindset. A quick reminder of drawing ‘language’ then we’re off to the seaside to find something to draw. Bring your sunhat and cream! We'll hope for a fine day and if not we’ll work in the studio.

Coffee and ice cream opportunities abound! But packing materials lightly is an art so do consult the materials list here in good time.

Our ‘at a glance’ programme for the season is here to help you plan. Come and treat yourself to an enjoyable day with like-minded company, in a bright, airy studio, coffee nearby and there’s always some laughter and surprises!

Students paint for all sorts of reasons...skills, an enjoyable hobby, social life, self-expression, relaxation and so on. Liana’s sessions are considered good value, inspiring and packed with tips; several serious students have even gone on to sell their work.

Liana is a seasoned trainer, therapist and artist, skilled at breaking down learning steps, instilling confidence and creating a warm, fun, supportive atmosphere. All students are also invited to join her Artists Circle community for free challenges, news, critiquing and teaching.

‘I always leave class with a whole host of new skills, but more than that, I have a new energy and belief in myself to carry forward into my art, my life. If you want to get your artistic mojo back, sign up!’ C. D

Please help us prepare well for you by booking at least two days before a course. Every effort will be made to accommodate last minute bookings, if there are places still available. Thankyou.
