Tom Unwin has been running workshops for adults over the year and the results are impressive and innovative with numbers from Stevie Wonder to Cole Porter

TORI FREESTONE/ALCYONA MICK DUO

The Guardian wrote "The no-hiding-place exposure of an improvising sax/piano duo is a tough call but the British pairing of pianist Alcyona Mick and tenor saxophonist Tori Freestone make light of it." This is lyrical modern jazz with classical influences”

GILAD ATZMON OHE

The ever wonderful saxophonist Gilad returns with the Orient House Ensemble to deliver the widest range of sound with the music of Duke Ellington art its core.

NIGEL PRICE QUARTET. All about Jazz, says "Nigel Price is probably the most dynamic and gifted guitarist on the British jazz scene today .Influenced by the Blue Note 'groove' era of Wes Montgomery, Grant Green and Donald Byrd he takes this music into the modern day accompanied by saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos provides the very best in contemporary jazz.

LEO RICHARDSON QUARTET

Have been hot on the London scene for several years. Dave Gelly writes of their debut album ‘ The energy of it is quite ferocious at times, but all under control and technically perfect…. hard bop, but music as good as this is beyond category.’ . We are delighted to welcome them as our headliner.

AL SWAINGER QUARTET – TRIBUTE TO CHICK COREA.

Bassist Al turns his hand to yet another innovative project tis time in dedication to Chick Corea. Al says “​Mix Chick Corea with Radiohead in a blender then use the resulting cocktail to write film music and you might get something a little like this”. Critics have described it as “the birth of a new layer of fusion’.​

SAM MASSEY ENSEMBLE

Trumpeter Sam Massey is showing just how good jazz is in young hands. The Sam Massey Quintet is a jazz/funk ensemble comprising some of the South West’s finest jazz musicians, combining an experienced, steaming rhythm section with an energetic, front line blend of trumpet and tenor sax. The band play a mixed programme of jazz standards, ballads and jazz-funk numbers, as well as original compositions.

DAVE HANKIN BIG BAND

Big Bands are ever popular but increasingly rare in an age of austerity. As a finale we have a celebration of the classic age of swing with a superb band that always sells out. With a seventeen strong band and vocals this will be a fitting climax to the Festival

 

 Prices are £15 for all with the exception being DYGO at £12.50 . Students with Id and u18s are half price.
